As summer approaches, SPCA Monterey County is launching a slate of programs and services not only aimed at supporting rescued animals, but also to engage with the local community.
Currently, the SPCA is caring for more than 100 rescued kittens and puppies, with more arriving daily. Many of these animals are too young for adoption and require foster homes for a few days to a few weeks.
Foster families provide essential care — feeding, socialization and recovery — while the SPCA covers food, supplies, medical care and training.
In addition to puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats recovering from surgery are also in need of temporary foster homes.
The SPCA’s Doggy Day Out and Foster to Adopt programs offer opportunities for community members to support these animals and find potential long-term companions. To sign up as a foster or learn more, visit SPCAmc.org/foster or call (831) 373-2631.
The SPCA is also asking for the public’s help during Amazon Pet Day by purchasing high-need items from its Amazon Wish List. Supplies like kitten formula, bottles, litter and soft toys with built-in heartbeats help save the lives of underage pets.
The list is available at SPCAmc.org/kitten-shower.
The SPCA is continuing its free spay/neuter clinics for cats in South Monterey County.
The next event will be held May 21, at the King City Recreation Center, 401 Division St., King City.
Appointments are available for both feral and friendly cats. All animals will receive spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccination and the FVRCP vaccine. A $45 deposit is required to reserve a spot and is fully refunded at the time of the appointment.
Feral cats must arrive in humane traps; friendly cats must be in carriers. Make appointments at SPCAmc.org/vet-clinic.
Registration is open for the SPCA’s Animal Camp, which teaches children about kindness, responsibility and animal care.
Held at the SPCA campus in the Claire Jacobson Learning Center, the camp features animal handling, nature hikes, crafts, trivia games and visits with rescued pets and wildlife. To register, visit SPCAmc.org/camp.
