Aptos High junior Maya Schiro took first out of 66 runners at the nine-team Tom Leikam Invitational at Pinto Lake County Park in Watsonville on Saturday.

Schiro completed the 3-mile course in 18 minutes, 19 seconds.

Watsonville senior Katelynn Ruiz (18:36) took second place. Santa Cruz senior Heidi Green (18:39) took third and freshman teammate Isla Roake (18:43) took fourth.

San Lorenzo Valley senior Naomi Seastrom (19:58) took ninth, and Watsonville junior Lizbeth Gomez Abrica (20:10) took 10th.

North Monterey County (66) and Watsonville (66) tied for first place.

SLV (82) took fourth, and Santa Cruz (96) took fifth.

De La Salle Nike Invitational >> Archbishop Mitty senior Evie Marheineke, a Santa Cruz resident, took sixth place at the De La Salle Nike Invitational at Newhall Community Park in Concord on Saturday. She completed the 3-mile course in 18:30.0.

Monte Vista Christian senior Kylie Brunelli took 11th in 18:58.4. Mustangs freshman Anna Conca (20:13.9) took 44th, and sophomore teammate Finley Castro (20:19.6) took 47th.

Monarchs junior Alessia Carbone, a Scotts Valley resident, took 70th in 20:54.8.

Davis sophomore Norah Feldt took first in 18:04.5.

Los Altos (71) took first out of 28 teams. Mitty (284) took 11th. MVC had an incomplete squad.

Boys cross country

Tom Leikam Invitational >> Santa Cruz senior Eli Fitchen-Young took first out of 82 runners at the 10-team Tom Leikam Invitational at Pinto Lake County Park in Watsonville on Saturday.

He completed the 3-mile course in 15:06.

Aptos finished with three runners in the top 10 and rolled to the team title with a score of 28.

Mariners sophomore Sam Hansen (15:32) took second, junior teammate Brady Bliesner (15:45) took fourth, and senior Vincent Sandford-Carroll (15:47) took fifth.

Santa Cruz senior Emiliano Villarreal (16:24) took sixth, and Watsonville sophomore Nain Garcia-Ferria (16:28) took seventh.

Santa Cruz (65) took second place, Watsonville (96) took fourth, and SLV (227) took eighth.

De La Salle Nike Invitational >> MVC junior Gavin Beckmen (16:52.4) took 93rd at the De La Salle Nike Invitational at Newhall Community Park in Concord on Saturday.

Senior teammate Bradley Orlando (17:28.9) took 130th in the field of 256 runners.

Jesuit (63) won the team title. MVC (798) took 32nd out of 38 teams.

Women cross country

UC Riverside Invitational >> UC Santa Cruz’s Kenzie Seymour took 43rd place at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday. She completed 6K course in a Banana Slugs record 20:56.3.

Helena Janku took 65th in 21:13.2, UCSC’s second-fastest all-time 6K time.

UCSC (483) took 21st out of 25 teams. Utah State (67) won the team title.

Arizona State freshman Judy Chepkoech took first out of 227 runners in 19:31.7. Cal Poly-SLO junior Isabel Sanchez, a Santa Cruz High alumna, took 56th in 21:07.0.

Men’s cross country

UC Riverside Invitational >> UCSC’s Luke Holland took 51st place in 24:17.5 in the invitational race at the 8K UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday.

California Baptist University (25) took first out of 26 teams. The Banana Slugs (488) took 17th.

CBU freshman Zouhair Redouane (23:33.0) took first out of 248 runners.

Girls volleyball

Chris Chandler Invitational >> Harbor went 3-1 for second place at the Chris Chandler Invitational at Menlo School in Atherton on Saturday.

The Pirates (8-7) beat Hillsdale 25-15, 25-21; avenged their loss to Sacred Heart Prep on Thursday, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12; and topped Carmel 29-27, 25-22; before falling to Marin Catholic 25-20, 25-19.

Senior outside hitter Isla Johnson totaled 31 kills and 20 digs in the tournament. Senior middle blocker Sabine Kemos had 21 kills, seven digs, senior outside hitter Maren O’Farrell had 20 kills, 28 digs, and seven aces, and senior setter Sandy Enriquez had 38 assists and 19 digs.

Harbor plays at Scotts Valley on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Women’s volleyball

UCSC closes out road trip >> UCSC dropped a pair of matches in New York on Saturday. The Banana Slugs lost 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 to Johns Hopkins and 25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 25-15 to New York University.

Ashley Magley had 15 kills and five blocks against Johns Hopkins. Drew Bryant had 14 kills. Olly Gordon had 10 kills and six blocks. Michaela Augustine made 20 assists, and Alessandra Ponzo had 19 assists. Anna Hospodar and Abigail Lee each made 10 digs.

Kelly Ann Greene had 15 kills against NYU. Magley had 11 kills and Audrey Gilbert had seven kills and 11 digs. Gordon made seven blocks. Augustine had 21 assists.

UCSC (7-10) hosts Simpson (6-7) on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Girls flag football

Cowboy Up Tournament >> Watsonville went 1-3 at Salinas’ Cowboy Up Tournament on Saturday.

The Wildcatz lost 27-6 to Los Gatos, 20-18 to Salinas, and 7-6 to Berean Christian before closing play with an 18-12 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral.
