





Free COVID-19 testing in Elgin, Hampshire next week
The Illinois Department of Public Health will be offering free coronavirus testing at two Elgin-area locations next week.
The mobile testing unit will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at the Elgin Sports Complex, 709 Sports Way, and Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Hampshire High School, 1600 Big Timber Road.
Testing is open to anyone regardless of symptoms, a news release from the Kane County Health Department said.
A phone number and name are required in order to receive testing results.
Photo ID is not needed.
Testing will be done using a drive-thru process, meaning a functioning car window is needed and patients cannot exit their vehicle, the release said. There is also a free drive-through testing site open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week at 2450 N. Farnsworth Ave., across from the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora, the release said.

Take a COVID-safe photo with Santa in South Elgin
Santa will be posing for socially distanced photos from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the South Elgin Municipal Annex, 1 W. Water St.

Santa will be behind a decorated window, with families lining up at their registered time to stand in front of it and pose for a photo they take themselves, an announcement on the city’s website said.
Parking is available in the annex’s public lot, and participants must stand on designated marks to provide social distancing and must wear face masks until they take their photos, the site said.
ECC graduation ceremonies to be
held online Dec. 19
Elgin Community College will hold two virtual commencement ceremonies for the fall 2020 graduating class on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020.
At 10 a.m., the ceremony for university transfer degrees (associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts-visual art emphasis, associate in fine arts-music performance emphasis, associate in engineering science, and associate in liberal studies) will be held, a news release said.
It will be followed at 2 p.m. with a ceremony for career and technical programs (associate of applied science degrees, vocational specialist certificates, and basic vocational specialist certificates).
