The menu was simple.
It included fresh greens and chicken pasta primavera.
But there was a twist to the meal served July 3 at The Root 66 Community Garden in Rancho Cucamonga.
Much of the food served at the “farm-to-table dinner” was grown in the garden.
“These events are an opportunity for the community to experience the garden in a new way — connecting with the land, local food and each other,” Karen Cancilla, manager of the Root 66 Garden, said in an email.
The dinner, one in a series of such meals, recognized members and volunteers.
Additional farm-to-table dinners are planned for later in the summer and in the fall.
Last fall, the 14-acre nonprofit garden, founded in 2014 by Dee Matreyek, marked its 10th anniversary.
“What began as a simple idea to bring people together through gardening has grown into a nearly self-sufficient urban oasis dedicated to sustainability, hands-on education and community connection,” Cancilla wrote.
