Hit-and-run suspect arrested downtown
A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly crashing into a traffic signal during a hit-and-run incident in downtown San Rafael.
The incident was reported around 8 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Second and B streets. Authorities said a pickup truck driver drove onto a sidewalk and crashed into a streetlight, a traffic signal pole and several trees. No injuries were reported.
Officers detained the suspect after he allegedly tried to flee the scene. They determined he was intoxicated, according to police.
Herman Rossbach of San Rafael was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and committing a hit-and-run offense. He was released from Marin County Jail after posting a $1,670 bond, sheriff’s Deputy Stephanie Ware said.
Rossbach could not be reached for comment.
Man accused of robbery, assault
San Rafael police arrested a man suspected of injuring a security guard with a knife during a robbery.
The incident was reported at about 4 p.m. Monday at Macy’s. Security confronted the suspect after he stole merchandise from the department store at Northgate mall, police Sgt. Justin Graham reported.
The suspect is accused of pulling out a knife and slashing an employee. Graham said that the victim did not require medical attention.
Pedro Alonzo Hernandez-Celidon, 25, of San Rafael, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into Marin County Jail where his bail was set at $75,000.
Alleged stalker denies charges
A registered sex offender pleaded not guilty to charges that he stalked a woman in San Rafael.
Darrien James Humphries, 25, of Vacaville entered his plea during a Tuesday hearing. He is accused of committing the felonies of stalking and false imprisonment and the misdemeanor charge of being a registered sex offender on school property.
Judge Geoffrey Howard set the defendant’s preliminary examination for April 10. During that hearing, the judge will review evidence and determine if the case is fit for trial.
Humphries is accused of following a woman, making lewd comments to her and then blocking her from leaving on March 19. Both parties briefly entered the grounds of a nearby private preschool, police reported.
The defendant was ordered to register as a sex offender after he was convicted of sexual battery in Santa Clara County.
Humphries remains in custody at Marin County Jail where his bail was set at $100,000. Public defender Nicole Tiger declined to comment after the Tuesday hearing.
