The Dodgers repeated as World Champions on Saturday but had to work late to win one of the most dramatic World Series ever played. They came from behind to win Game 7 5-4 in 11 innings in Toronto.

The Dodgers, with their soaring payroll and roster full of former MVPs and future Hall of Famers, needed a solo home run in the ninth inning from Miguel Rojas to tie the game 4-4. They got the game-winning run on a solo home run from Will Smith in the 11th inning.

Rojas, a team leader, was seldom used in the Series but was inserted into the lineup in Game 6 with manager Dave Roberts saying he needed a spark. Smith was moved up in the order, also in Game 6.

The game started with a matchup of future Hall of Famers. Toronto’s Max Scherzer outpitched Dodgers starter Shohei Ohtani. Toronto took a 3-0 lead and chased Ohtani from the game when Bo Bichette homered in the third inning. But the Dodgers chipped away and got even with the two-strike home run from Rojas down the left field line with one out.

In a dramatic bottom of the ninth inning, a replay review was needed on a play at the plate for the second out, which would have been the winning run for Toronto. And the Dodgers got the third out with the bases loaded on a fly ball nearly to the wall when center fielder Andy Pages collided with left fielder Kiké Hernández to make the catch.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who started Game 6, came on in relief to pitch the 10th and 11th innings, earning his third victory of the series for the Dodgers and was the MVP of the series.
