A Gary man was shot and killed late Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers were called at around 11:43 a.m.November 17 to the 3700 block of Broadway to assist the Gary Fire Department, Gary Police Cmdr. Jack Hamady said in a release Sunday. Firefighters let them know there was a man inside dead from a gunshot wound, he said.

The man was identified as a 50-year-old from Gary, but his name has yet to be released.

The investigation is ongoing, Hamady said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s CSI and Lake County Coroner’s Office assisted.

In a second incident, a Gary man was killed when he was traveling south on Broadway near the Borman Expressway interchange on Saturday afternoon.

Melvin Butler, 64, suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the crash which occured in the 2600 block of Broadway, according to a Lake County Coroner’s Office release.

He was pronounced dead at 4:22 p.m. at Methodist Hospital Northlake.
