Woodland for Peace (W4P for short) and Davis Friends Meeting invite the community to better understand the current Israel and Palestine conflict with the free film screening of the 2024 documentary “From Ground Zero,” at the Quaker Church in Davis, located at 345 L St., on May 22 at 7 p.m.

There will also be a guided discussion after the film to gather what has been learned by the community.

“From Ground Zero: is a collection of revealing stories from 22 Palestinian filmmakers who capture their lives during the 2023/2024 Gaza genocide. W4P originally showed the film Israelism back in February at a Woodland Church.

The event was attended by 60 people, including one member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. While Israelism was more of a beginner-friendly film, “From Ground Zero” will feature heavier content. However, the group encourages beginners, or people who wish to learn more, to still attend.

W4P is an ad hoc group of Woodland-based, religious and non-religious individuals. According to a local press release, they are a peace and human rights group dedicated to Palestinian Justice and resisting fascism and the US war machine.

W4P is currently concerned with the fate of the Palestinian people within Israel, the West Bank, the Golan Heights, Gaza, and the diaspora. Nevertheless, the group also explores imperialism, colonization, and the negative impacts of extreme militarization beyond just Palestine.

Activities include:

Monthly in-person discussion groups based on readings about War and genocide. This includes our next book group meeting on June 28th from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Woodland American Lutheran Church. We will discuss the book “War is a Lie” by David Swanson.

Fundraising to benefit children in war zones, such as UNICEF and the Middle East Children’s Fund (MECA).

Public education film screenings including a potential future screening at another Woodland church.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided during the film screening. No tickets are needed.
