Strengthening south-to-southwest winds flowing up the backside of high pressure departing east will steer much warmer air into the Chicago area Friday. Abundant sunshine combined with the strong winds will boost midafternoon temperatures into the low 70s. The gusty winds are expected to persist well into the overnight hours, allowing mild readings in the 60s to hold through the World Series game at Wrigley Field. Strong winds blowing from home plate to left field and left-center field will make it difficult for pitchers to keep fly balls in the ballpark.

Much of Saturday will have warm southwest winds and temperatures in the 70s. But fans attending the second game at Wrigley Field might do well to take a jacket and even a slicker, as an early evening cold front moves through from the north.
