A Cedar Lake woman is facing charges after admitting she took expensive coins from a Winfield housekeeping client and sold some for $16,000, according to court documents.

Kristina Oliver, 43, was charged on Dec. 30 with one count of Level 5 felony theft.

She has not been arrested in the case. Bail hasn’t been set.

The Winfield homeowner called police on Dec. 5 after she noticed a 45-coin collection that she claimed was worth $100,000 was missing from her bathroom drawer. She found the coins gone when she went to add new ones to the stash.

The woman said she was retired and had collected coins since 1990 as a “nest egg.”

She said she only told her children where they were, but Oliver had access to the home and had cleaned it a couple of times starting on Oct. 31.

The homeowner called cops again on Dec. 18, saying a gold Pandora bracelet and pendant, which she said was worth $1,800, was gone, with a prescription bill bottle and some costume jewelry worth $800.

Cops pulled Oliver over on Dec. 23 as she went to clean the woman’s home. At the police station, she eventually said she took the coins, tearfully admitting she was having financial issues and wanted to give her grandkids a good Christmas.

Oliver said she sold some coins for $16,000 but handed cops a dozen coins she still had at home.
