Corinne Wiley, a two-term Belvedere City Council member who also served as mayor, has died at age 98.

Ms. Wiley contracted COVID-19, according to her family.

Ms. Wiley served four years on the Planning Commission and was elected to council in 1996. She also served on the board of Sanitary District No. 5 of Marin County between 2007 and 2011.

James Campbell, a former City Council member, said Ms. Wiley recognized Belvedere as a special place to honor with public service. Ms. Wiley received the citizen of the year award in 2005.

Ms. Wiley also was a member of the Tiburon Economic Development Committee and the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

“Belvedere had a lifetime love affair with her. She really is going to be irreplaceable in our community,” Campbell said. “She always had the best of Belvedere in her mind.”

Ms. Wiley was born in San Francisco on April 30, 1926. She moved to Marin County in 1960 and found her Beach Road home in 1977.

Her career was in interior design and she owned Corinne Wiley Interiors. She was also one of the owners of the crafts store the Dovecote.

In 2007, Ms. Wiley sought a board seat for Belvedere at the Sanitary District No. 5 of Marin County.

“Belvedere has no representation on the board, and we pay between 35% and 38% of the bills,” Ms. Wiley said at the time. “Belvedere people have applied but they have not been selected, so we decided to put up three candidates.”

Mayor Jane Cooper said Ms. Wiley was a neighbor and friend of her parents — someone she had known for most of her life.

“Mayor Wiley was a community role model because she cared so much for our city, which was evident in her actions,” Cooper said. “She was viewed as the elder stateswoman of Belvedere, and everyone, including me, respected her for all she did for our community.”

Adam Gavzer, a Belvedere real estate agent, said Ms. Wiley was one of the first people he met when he moved to the city. He said she invited him to lunch and promoted volunteerism.

“That’s the message I would put out there — she really was so welcoming to get people into volunteering for the city,” Gavzer said.

Ms. Wiley, who died on Dec. 24, is survived by her daughters, Paige Peterson and Laurie Everson, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family planned a private service.
