Ten people were displaced and two were injured by a massive overnight fire in Roslindale on Sunday, Boston Fire reported.

At about 1:30 a.m., Boston Fire said, the department responded to “heavy black smoke” pouring from a large two and a half story residence at 143 Poplar St. Firefighters were notified of people reported in the building.

Second and third alarms were quickly ordered at the scene of the massive blaze.

By just before 2:15 a.m., all occupants were out of the building and accounted for, the department reported. Two residents were rescued from windows as the house burned.

Flames could be seen shooting from the roof in a video shared by Boston Fire as figures exited through the smoky front doorway.

A fourth alarm was ordered at the time, fire officials said.

Minutes later, all firefighters had been ordered out of the blazing building as well, the department said. Firefighters reported “heavy fire” in the attic.

“Firefighters have switched to a defensive approach, using multiple portable deck guns to surround the building and protect the exposures,” Boston Fire posted on X around 2:30 a.m. “As the fire continues to burn in the attic.”

Just before 3 a.m. the Boston Fire Chief of Operations had reportedly taken over the helm at the site, and the blaze was knocked down throughout the building. Companies at the scene “continued to chase hot spots,” the department said.

Throughout the effort, firefighters ran a total of over 3 thousand feet of hose line and rotated companies “to keep them fresh on a hot and humid night,” Boston Fire stated.

Around 4 a.m., Boston Fire Deputy Chief Michael Doherty reported 10 residents displaced by the blaze and an estimated $800,000 of damages at the site.

EMS responders took one civilian and one firefighter for treatment of “minor injuries,” Doherty said.

Red Cross officials responded to assist the displaced residents.

The Roslindale fire hit just hours after a 3-alarm blaze at Corwin St. in Dorchester.

“A busy 24 hours for our firefighters, many of them working at the 3-alarm fire on Corwin St. in the day and the 4-alarm fire that evening on Poplar St.,” Boston Fire wrote just after 5 a.m. “A great job by all our firefighters and Fire Alarm Operators.”
