Category 4 Hurricane Laura was expected to make landfall along the southwest Louisiana/northern Texas coastline late Thursday night with potential winds of 150 mph, along with a 20-plus-foot storm surge. Laura will still retain hurricane force winds in the morning as it marches north into Louisiana, dropping to tropical storm status during the afternoon. In addition to the devastating wind and storm surge damage along and just inland of the coastline, heavy 6- to 12-inch rainfall will cause widespread flash-flooding over the remainder of Louisiana into Arkansas as the storm marches north along the lower Mississippi Valley. Locally, the heat and humidity will persist, but a cold front approaching from the northwest will spread showers and storms, some severe, over our area later Thursday night .
