THE GAME: The Angels collected 18 hits on their way to a 5-4 victory over the Padres on Tuesday in Peoria, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Tucker Davidson worked three scoreless innings, striking out four and walking one. Davidson has allowed two runs in seven innings this spring, with 10 strikeouts and one walk. Davidson, who is out of options, is likely the current leader for the No. 6 spot in the rotation. ... Right-hander Chris Devenski was charged with two runs in his inning. A former All-Star reliever in camp on a minor league deal, Devenski has allowed four runs in four innings this spring. ... Right-hander José Soriano gave up two runs in an inning. Soriano, who was the Angels’ top pitching prospect before having two Tommy John surgeries, hit 97 mph with his fastball.

HITTING REPORT: Matt Thaiss led off the second inning with a double and he doubled again in the fourth. ... Jake Lamb singled and walked in three trips. A non-roster invitee who is a veteran of nine big league seasons, Lamb is 5 for 14 with two walks so far this spring. ... Jo Adell bounced a ground ball off third base for a single, snapping an 0-for-15 skid in which he had struck out 11 times. Adell then doubled down the left field line. He’s 4 for 22 this spring. Manager Phil Nevin said that Adell might soon get a day off “to clear his head,” but he emphasized that Adell needs to keep playing. “He goes through little skids as we’ve seen once in a while, but I’d rather have them now,” Nevin said. “He’s working on some different things offensively, but I’m going to keep putting him out there.”

DEFENSE REPORT: Left fielder Taylor Ward seemed to lose a ball in the sun. It hit off his glove and was scored a double. ... Center fielder Brett Phillips made a nice catch at the warning track in right-center. ... Adell made a catch going back toward the fence in right field. “He’s looked great in the outfield, and that’s a credit to the work he’s put in,” Nevin said.
