Darius Garland scored 39 points, Evan Mobley added 17 and the host Cleveland Cavaliers improved to 8-0 with a 116-114 win on Monday night over the Milwaukee Bucks, who played without injured superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has a strained adductor muscle.
The Cavs also went 8-0 in 1976.
Damian Lillard scored 36 for the Bucks, but committed a costly turnover when he was called for an over-and-back violation with 56 seconds left. The Bucks have lost six straight.
WARRIORS 125, WIZARDS 112: Stephen Curry scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half in his return from an ankle injury and visiting Golden State won its fourth straight game, beating Washington.
The first three games of the Warriors’ winning streak came without Curry, but he was able to start against the Wizards.
Jordan Poole led the Wizards with 24 points.
CELTICS 123, HAWKS 93: Jayson Tatum scored 26 of his 28 points in the first half and visiting Boston routed Atlanta.
Tatum also had nine assists and six rebounds.
Hawks guard Trae Young left the game in the third quarter with a right rib strain. He was 1 for 10 from the floor and finished with two points and six assists in 23 minutes. Jalen Johnson led Atlanta with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
THUNDER 102, MAGIC 86: Jalen Williams scored 23 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 21 points and nine assists and host Oklahoma City defeated Orlando to remain the only unbeaten team in the Western Conference at 7-0.
Franz Wagner scored 22 points for the Magic.
PACERS 134, MAVERICKS 127: Myles Turner had season highs with 30 points and 11 rebounds while going over 8,000 career points, Tyrese Haliburton had a season-best 25 points and 12 assists and visiting Indiana beat Dallas.
Luka Doncic had 34 points and 15 assists for the Mavericks, who split a home back-to-back. Kyrie Irving scored 27 points.
NUGGETS 121, RAPTORS 119: Russell Westbrook scored 21 points and played smothering defense on the final play of the game, and host Denver beat Toronto.
Nikola Jokic had 28 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists for his third triple-double in four games for the Nuggets.
Toronto a chance but on the final play Westbrook blanketed RJ Barrett, whose 26-footer to win it at the horn was short. Barrett finished with 16 points while Grady Dick had 26 for the Raptors.
SUNS 118, 76ERS 116: Kevin Durant (35 points) broke a tie on a driving layup with 24 seconds left and host Phoenix beat Philadelphia, spoiling Paul George’s 76ers debut.
After missing the first five games of the season because of a bone bruise in his left knee, George had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes.
