On Saturday June 3, 2023 Jean Hobbie, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away. She lived her life fearlessly, was passionate about her husband and family, and had an unquenchable thirst for travel. She was our mentor and strong female role model who loved with her whole heart at the same time.

Jean was born in Bakersfield, CA on December 19, 1932 to Carl and Myrtle Allen. She spent her early life in Bakersfield and San Luis Obispo. In her teen years, she moved to Oroville, CA where she started a family and worked at several jobs before opening her ladies apparel business, Poppy’s. In retirement she and her husband, Richard Hobbie, moved to Pacific Grove, CA to enjoy the coastal life. During this time Jean became a travel agent and she and Richard continued traveling the world, so much so that they left no stone unturned.

Jean is survived by her husband, Richard Hobbie as well as six children, Lisa Elmassian and husband Joe, Gail Hobbie, Kim Porter, Rik Hobbie and wife Peggy, Lora Mitchell and husband Jim, Cheryl Norris and husband Scott. Jean is grandmother to Ammie Abundis, Jeremy Hobbie, Kelly Delafield, Deidra Wood, Melissa Rinker, Ryan Mitchell, Carly Irion, Jason Elmassian, Brianna Elmassian, twins Megan Elmassian and Tara Elmassian.

Jean also has sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Jean lived a long and fulfilled life which will be celebrated at The Paul Mortuary, 390 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove, CA 93950. A viewing will be held Thursday June 15, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM. The service will be held Friday June 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Jean lived her life in living color and her family would like you to echo that sentiment at her service by wearing color.

The family supports Camp Okizu (okizu.org), children cancer camp, should you wish to donate in lieu of flowers.
