Both the Orland and Gridley High School football teams enter the final regular season game 4-0 in Butte View League play, and Friday night the Trojans (7-1) and Bulldogs (7-2) will face off to determine the BVL champion. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Gridley.

Orland enters with seven straight victories, after losing in Week 1 to Enterprise. The Trojans have played one less regular season game than the Bulldogs after a Week 5 matchup against Durham was canceled halfway through the first quarter due to lightning. With it being a non-league game, it was not rescheduled.

Gridley enters with seven straight victories as well, after opening its season with two straight losses to Wheatland and Marysville in a pair of 14-7 games.

Both teams matchup well, led by the strong play of their defenses. After allowing 30 points in Weeks 2-6, Orland’s defense has given up 20 points to Las Plumas and 25 to Corning in Weeks 8 and 9.

Gridley’s offense has outscored its opponents 205-79 in nine games (22.77-8.77 per game), including two shutouts. Orland’s offense has outscored its opponents 395-114 in eight games (49.375-14.25 per game), and the Trojans have one shutout victory.

Pleasant Valley (6-3, 3-1 Eastern Athletic League) finishes its regular season at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Foothill.

PV enters Friday second in the EAL trailing only Chico (8-1, 4-0 EAL). The Vikings lead Shasta (6-3, 2-2 EAL), Foothill (5-4, 2-2 EAL), Red Bluff (5-4, 1-3 EAL) and Enterprise (4-5, 0-4 EAL).PV has won two straight games and four of its last five. After losing to Chico in the Almond Bowl in Week 7, the Vikings allowed a combined seven points to Shasta and Red Bluff in Weeks 8 and 9.

PV’s offense has seven players who have at least 100 rushing yards each, led by Lucas Benson’s 473 yards and nine touchdowns. Benson has not appeared in a game since leaving the Almond Bowl in Week 7 with an apparent injury.

Chico (8-1, 4-0 EAL) closes out its regular season at 7 p.m. Friday at Enterprise.

The Panthers are looking to replicate their 2018 and 2019 seasons when they finished 9-1, but possibly take that one step further after the both teams lost to PV in the NSCIF D-II championship.

It will be the final regular season game for a group of 21 seniors on Chico’s 41 man roster, led by standout running back Dion Coleman. Coleman has 150 carries for 1,804 yards and 23 touchdowns this season, including four straight 200-yard rushing games in EAL play.
