Resident of Santa Cruz

Born February 16, 1929 in West Newton, MA to Mary and Raymond Murray. She grew up in West Newton with her siblings Mary, Catherine, Arthur, and Rachel. She worked at Boston College, where she met Edmund Mockus. They were married from August 11, 1951 until Ed’s death in 2009. They moved to California in February of 1963, living in La Jolla, Glendale, and settling in Santa Cruz in 1974. Louise passed peacefully in the home she and Ed built in 1994.

Louise was a devoted mother to her nine children and will be greatly missed by her surviving family: children, Joseph (Linda Matson), Mary, Sheila (Frank Kozina), Dorothy (Jim Lubin), Martha, John (Toni Marie D’Amore), and Eileen (Eric Krantz), her grandchildren Catherine (Justin Bautista), Laura, Edmund, Robert, Michael (Amy Calgaro-Kozina), Dorothy (Alex Freitas), Ellen, Joan, Samuel, Alexander, and Fiona, and her great grandchildren John, Joseph and Daniel Kozina and Luzon Mockus Bautista, and 14 nieces and 6 nephews.

Louise was predeceased by her daughter Anne Mockus Cervantes, her son-in-law Mark Cervantes, her daughter-in-law Paula Merrigan, her husband Edmund Mockus, and her son Peter Mockus.

Louise worked at Holy Cross School, was a volunteer visitor to residents at geriatric care facilities, and knitted and crocheted layette items for Siena House in Santa Cruz. She was active with the Holy Cross Altar and Rosary Society as well as a Eucharistic Minister. Louise loved creative pursuits, including painting, mosaics, needle work, home decorating, cooking, and gardening.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Lifespan for their many kindnesses over the years.

The Funeral Mass will be on July 17, 2025 at 11AMat Holy Cross Church, 210 High Street, Santa Cruz, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations to Siena House would be appreciated.
