Oak Lawn police officers “engaged in extreme and outrageous conduct” in the arrest of a 17-year-old in which video provided by police as well as video taken by witnesses show officers repeatedly punching the youth as he was pinned down on the street, a federal lawsuit filed Monday alleges.

Police said Monday the teen had been released from Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and has been charged as a juvenile with felonies including resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon.

Separately, Oak Lawn officials say they will cooperate with an Illinois State Police investigation into the arrest of the teen.

The lawsuit seeks undisclosed damages and alleges that three unnamed police officers violated the teen’s constitutional rights in the July 27 arrest following a traffic stop in Oak Lawn.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx called for an independent probe by state police into the July 27 arrest, which left the teen hospitalized and sparked a large protest outside Oak Lawn’s police station.
