Readers respond to Question of the Week:

Newsom’s White House bid: Yay?

It’s a nay

His list of accomplishments are few; his list of failures are many; his feckless leadership is only outweighed by his ego; his massive failure in California will be seen by voters nationwide!

— WL Sutton, Corona Del Mar

Gavin’s White House bid

Republicans should be happy if Newsom is the Democratic candidate for president. He has done such a terrible job in California, he will be easily beaten by the Republican candidate.

— Don Duclos, Mission Viejo

Newsom for pres 2028

It would take me at least 10,000 words to describe the negatives of Newsom. He has wiped out California as a place to live unless you are a die-hard progressive liberal. Highest prices in the U.S. for most of the living essentials. Gerrymandering the state’s Republicans out of existence so they have almost no say on important issues. Don’t even get me started on the sanctuary status of California. Only voters in New York, New Jersey and Illinois would even consider voting for him.

— Stephen Shermoen, Sr., Huntington Beach

Gov. Newsom’s ambitions

In your Sept. 2 issue you ask, “So what do you think of Gavin Newsom’s presidential ambitions?”

My answer says it all: If Newson ever becomes president and does to the country what he’s done to California, Canada will build a wall.

— RL Carpenter, Huntington Beach

Yay, for Newsom

Yes, I have approved of Gov. Newsom and his leadership since 2019, and as a potential 2028 U.S. presidential candidate. This is due to concurring with him on several key issues, such as women’s rights, and for his environmental protection policies.

— Isadora Johnson, Seal Beach

Newsom for president?

Maybe president of a mega church. He has been in government here in California for 20 years. What has he done but waste billions of dollars? The rail, homeless, where did all that cash go? He is unqualified to be governor let alone president of the U.S.
