San Domenico’s defense clamped down on San Marin in the first half and the Panthers went on to a 57-46 non-league boys win in Novato on Tuesday.
The Panthers (13-6, 2-2 BCL West) held San Marin to just 16 points in the first half as San Domenico held an 11-point lead. The Mustangs (11-8, 2-1 MCAL) mounted a late charge, but it wasn’t enough to overcome San Domenico’s high-powered offense. The Panthers’ Gavin Early led the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Omar Williams chipped in 14 points on the strength of four 3-pointers.
• Archie Williams nudged Terra Linda 57-52 on Tuesday night in San Anselmo. The Trojans (13-7, 2-2 MCAL) used tough half-court defense anchored by sophomore Evan Brewster (12 points) to build a 24-18 lead in the first half. The Peregrine Falcons (13-6, 1-2 MCAL) stepped up the pressure to take a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans rallied to close the gap to just one point before Archie Williams sealed the win at the free throw line. Juniors Meezy Butler and Grady Stewart had 16 points each for Archie Williams, which plays at San Marin on Friday. Terra Linda hosts Marin Catholic Friday night.
• San Rafael used big second-half push to lock down a 72-48 win over Novato on Tuesday. The Bulldogs’ Gio Brovelli scored a game-high 29 points and Luke Shapiro pumped in 19 points, but it was three sophomores who propelled San Rafael (14-6, 1-2 MCAL) in the second half. Wyatt Tornello posted 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who got eight points and nine rebounds from Will Healy during 42-20 run, while Jax Aguillon had three timely steals. Chris Touissant led the Hornets (6-12, 0-3 MCAL) with 12 points and Dom Sclafani added 10.
• The Branson School rolled to a 76-46 victory, despite a solid effort from Tam on Tuesday. Porthos Oliveira led the Red-tailed Hawks (4-13, 1-2 MCAL) with 15 points, while Andrew Ismailer added nine and Cole Bester had eight points. Branson (12-9, 2-2 MCAL) is scheduled to play San Rafael on Friday.
Girls basketball
Reese Patton scored 14 points to lift shorthanded Archie Williams to a 39-21 victory against Terra Linda (6-15, 1-2 MCAL) on Tuesday. The Peregrine Falcons (11-7, 1-2) lost a couple of starters in the first half due to injury but got nine points from Parker Conrad and five apiece from Lydia Battaglia and Carolyn Morris.
• Tam (8-10, 2-2) evened up its league record following a 48-36 win against Branson on Tuesday. Kate Spaulding paced Branson (10-9, 1-3) with 13 points and Paige Macy added 12.
• Novato (11-7, 2-1) rolled to a 45-20 victory against San Rafael on Tuesday. Jessica Vara scored nine points for the Bulldogs (3-12, 0-3) and Aly Seater scored five.
• Carly Amborn poured in 29 points to lead San Domenico to a 63-33 win against Liberty at the Cornerstone Christian MLK Classic on Monday night. Tosia Konczak added 18 points with a strong floor game for the Panthers (9-10) while Amahji Cook added 12 points. Amborn was named the MVP and made the all-tournament team.
• Marin Academy struggled to a 58-15 loss to Lick-Wilmerding on Tuesday. The Wildcats (11-7, 2-2 BCL) entered the contest with a four-game winning streak. Marin Academy is scheduled to host league leader University onThursday.
• Grace Christian Academy nipped Tomales, 40-32, on Friday. The Braves (5-8, 2-5 NCL III) will try to snap a three-game skid on Friday against Round Valley.
