A segment of 12 Mile Road in Southfield will close on Saturday, Oct. 19, for underground utility work, according to the county road commission.

An estimated 23,500 vehicles use this stretch of road daily.

DTE will be repairing an underground electrical conduit that caught fire earlier this year.

The weekend closure is on 12 Mile Road between Lockdale and Duffy streets, just west of Telegraph Road. The road will reopen on Monday, Oct. 21, but some lanes will remain closed until December while work is completed.

Residents and business owners will be able to access their properties using streets east and west of the closure.

The detour for through traffic is Telegraph Road to 13 Mile Road to Inkster Road, back to 12 Mile Road and vice versa.

People with questions about the project should call DTE directly, at (800) 477-4747.
