Run to benefit McDonald House
The Crown Point Fraternal Order of Police Donald L. Melcher Lodge No. 176 will host a 5K run to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities on Saturday at the Crown Point Sportsplex, 1313 E. North St. Registration is at 10 a.m., and the race will begin at noon. Cost is $20 per entrant and includes two beer tickets. Participants must be 21 years or older. Tri Kappa to host bingo fundraiser
Portage Zeta Mu Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority, a philanthropic organization, will host its annual Boutique Bingo fundraiser at 2 p.m. Sunday at Duneland Falls Banquet Center, 1100 North Max Mochal Highway, Portage. Doors will open at noon. Admission is $35 until the day of the event, $40 at the door. Included in the admission cost is 12 rounds of bingo, hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Hospital auxiliary hosts fundraiser
Carline Leathers will present a fundraiser for the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in Rooms 3 and 3A at the hospital, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave., Hobart. The sale is open to the public and will offer a selection of name brand fashion outerwear, footwear, handbags and accessories. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale will be used in the 2019 scholarship fund, which benefits students pursuing a career in the medical field. Information: 219-947-6011.
Future students invited to PNW
Purdue University Northwest invites future students and their families to Preview PNW beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Student Union and Library Building on the Hammond Campus, 2233 173rd St. The event is free and open to all prospective students and their families. Attendees will tour the PNW campus and learn about undergraduate and graduate programs, campus life and housing options, financial aid and available scholarships. Area students
to participate
in ‘The Colored Museum’
Three area students will perform in “The Colored Museum,” a production of Purdue Lafayette campus’ Black Cultural Center, at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Glen Theater, 20 W. Ridge Road, Gary. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Those performing include Aarion Cook, a native of Hammond and a 2015 graduate of Hammond Academy of Science and Technology. Cook is a senior studying computer information technology. She is a member of the Black Voices of Inspiration Choir and the Purdue Express housed at the Black Cultural Center. She will be accompanied by Latrice Young, a 2014 class poet and valedictorian of Wirt-Emerson. She is a 2018 Purdue graduate with a major in creative writing. Also featured will be East Chicago native Aliyah Armstead. Tickets are $10 and are available at Beautiful Things in the Village Shopping Mall, 3570 Village Court, Gary. Admission at the door is $15.
