Check out The
Who, Rascal Flatts, Smashing Pumpkins

Rascal Flatts is the first of more than 30 shows. The band performs at 7:30 p.m. May 18 with its Summer Playlist tour, which also features Billy Currington and Jimmie Allen. Tickets are $18 to $350-plus.
“Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line — so we’ve got five super strong country artists coming through with full packages,” said Jon Reens, senior vice president of marketing/Midwest for Live Nation.
Although the Country Megaticket is no longer available, tickets for each show at the venue owned and operated by Live Nation are still for sale.
Rock gets rolling at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre at 7:30 p.m. May 21 with The Who. The Moving On! tour features symphonic accompaniment plus opening act Reignwolf. Tickets are $32 to $1,211-plus.
Both The Who and Rascal Flatts are “legendary in their field,” Reens said.
“It just so happened that we were able to bring them in to kick off the 2019 season.”
Other rock concerts at the amphitheater include Sammy Hagar with Vince Neil, Dave Matthews Band over the Fourth of July weekend, 311, Heart, Shinedown, Train and Goo Goo Dolls, Alice Cooper and Halestorm, Santana, Hootie & the Blowfish, Breaking Benjamin, and Bush and Live. One of the biggest shows for local rock fans features the Smashing Pumpkins on Aug. 15.
“The hometown kids are coming out and they’re bringing what was one of the largest bands in the world at the time,” said Reens, about the group founded in 1988 in Chicago.
Festivals include the return of 101WKQX Piqniq, Outlaw Music Festival with Willie Nelson, Rockstar Energy Drink Disrupt Festival and Slipknot’s Knotfest Roadshow. Other acts include Zac Brown Band, Hammer’s House Party with MC Hammer and Kid ’n Play, Wiz Khalifa, Impractical Jokers, Kidz Bop and ZZ Top celebrating its 50th anniversary.
“There’s still offers that haven’t been confirmed yet. I would look for another four or five shows maybe to come through,” Reens said.
In addition to the onstage acts, Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre has added some entertainment-inspired concessions including Roots drummer and “Tonight Show” bandleader Questlove’s vegetarian cheesesteak and the namesake dish of actor Danny Trejo’s Trejo’s Tacos.
Other eats include the signature buttermilk fried chicken from Art Bird & Whiskey Bar, which is owned by Lady Gaga’s father, Joe Germanotta, and run by Art Smith, Oprah Winfrey’s former personal chef, and Italian favorites from “Top Chef” fan favorite Fabio Viviani.
“We felt like nobody else is doing it so we’ve partnered with all these individuals and companies to bring their products to our consumers and elevate our consumer experience,” Reens said.
Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre itself has received a number of upgrades including brand-new seats for 2019.
“We have now put state-of-the-art LED screens on the lawn so it makes the lawn experience that much more vibrant,” Reens said.
“We’ve completely renovated our Stage Left Lounge,” he said. “We’re always updating and upgrading when we can and where we can.”
Those who are traveling from outside the south suburbs to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre have area attractions that can add to or extend their experience.
“There’s some great little towns around there — Flossmoor, Orland Park, Mokena, Tinley Park — with local restaurants and local shops. You can really make a day or a weekend, for that matter, in the Southland,” Reens said.
