MENTOR Minnesota recruits caring adults to help introduce a child to new ideas and opportunities through mentoring. Here’s one of the kids who could use a mentor’s help.

First name: Calvin

Age: 6

Interests: This active first-grader loves to be in motion, loves to ride his bike; favorite activity at school is recess, and all around he just loves exploring. He is not into many sports just yet, but his favorite animal is a caterpillar, and his favorite food is dougnuts!

Personality/Characteristics: His guardian describes Calvin as shy, quiet, introvert, very smart, sensitive! The three words/phrases he uses to describe himself are: Cool guy, smart, strong.

Goals/dreams: When he grows up he thinks he may wants to be a superhero who can use telepathy. If he could have three wishes, he would want: 1) A huge house 2) Trillion toys 3) Go to Target! Mom notes that it is just her and his two sisters, so she would love more male role models in his daily life! As well mom notes, “he needs work on empathy and communicating his feelings, I would like him to not be so scared to start new things, get him to recognize that it is okay to start new things and be okay with not being perfect the first time he tries things.” Calvin is looking for a school-based or community-based mentor!
