San Andreas
Michele “Mitz” Sackman passed away peacefully in San Andreas, California at the age of 75.
Mitz grew up on both coasts in a Navy family, attending Carmel Mission School while in elementary school, and later graduating from a Catholic girls high school in Washington D.C. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz and had a variety of jobs in the environmental sciences field, ending her career as a registered Environmental Health Specialist in Stanislaus County.
Mitz returned with her young family to the Monterey Peninsula in 1983 to be closer to her parents and siblings, residents of Carmel. She loved Asilomar Beach and visited regularly by herself and with her family, enjoying the crashing of the waves and the sounds of the birds.
She became a part of the local community of psychics, and made several lifelong friends.
Mitz fell in love with Calaveras County on vacation in 1995 and moved there with her husband David and family in 1996. She enjoyed reading and sharing books with friends and family, writing poetry, swimming at the Bret Harte High School pool, walking in Big Trees Park, and cooking.
Mitz is survived by her husband, David, her children Maia Ventura (Kern), Alex Kern, and Bliss Kern, and their father, John Kern, and sisters Jackie McFeely (Jauregui), Theresa Jauregui, Julie Holloway (Jauregui), Katie Lovette (Jauregui), Melissa Jauregui, and brothers James and Joe Jauregui.
Mitz was predeceased by her brother Tim Jauregui, her father Stephen Jauregui Jr., her mother Wilma Jauregui, and her brother Stephen Jauregui, III.
Mitz will be remembered for her sense of humor, her creative cooking and her poetry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Via Paraiso Park in Monterey on Saturday June 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
