Many people know San Anselmo resident Brian Colbert for his work in the county. He served for seven years on the San Anselmo Town Council, and served twice as mayor, before being sworn in to the Marin County Board of Supervisors earlier this year — becoming the first Black person to do so in its 173-year history.
But, he’s excited to show a different side of himself when he takes the stage at Simply Said, a monthly storytelling series, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lark Theater at 549 Magnolia Ave. in Larkspur. This month’s theme is pets.
“It’s a great opportunity to be out in the community as someone with a story to share — not as a politician campaigning or governing, but as a neighbor, a listener and a participant,” said Colbert, who earned degrees in theater and political science at Oberlin College.
“It’s also a fantastic way to showcase Marin’s vibrant cultural and arts scene, which adds so much to the fabric of our community. I’m always looking to challenge myself with new experiences, connect with people in meaningful ways and continue growing.”
The series, which is held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Larkspur movie theater, features a curated lineup of storytellers as well as selected audience members, who, if they want to share a story surrounding the theme, put their name in a hat.
This month’s show, hosted by Corey Rosen, will also feature Bay Area comedian Sue Alfieri and William Humnicky, the executive director of Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation, University of California at Berkeley’s professional graduate program in design for emerging technologies.
Admission is $27.25. For more information and to get tickets, go to larktheater.net/movie-category/special-events/simply-said.
