Scooter theft suspect arrested

San Rafael police arrested a man on Tuesday who allegedly stole an electric scooter after he was spotted in the police station lobby.

Sgt. Justin Graham said that the scooter was stolen the previous day on Third Street. Investigators viewed security video footage of the thief and saw a suspect.

Authorities said that the man later visited the police station to retrieve personal property stolen from him, Graham said. He allegedly rode the stolen scooter to the station. A records clerk recognized him as the suspect, the police said.

Jared Amadaus Evans, 27, of San Rafael was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, possessing drug paraphernalia and violating his terms of probation. He was placed into no-bail custody at the Marin County Jail due to a probation offense.

Jackson brings 20 years of experience in advocating for disability rights, voter access and LGBTQ+ equality, officials said.

He previously served as a community organizing director for the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers. Jackson also taught classes on disability community history and advocacy engagement at American University.
