Roberts Park district member remains in critical condition
A Roberts Park Fire Protection District firefighter remained in critical condition Thursday in the burn unit at Loyola University Medical Center but is expected to “fully recover,” according to the hospital.
The firefighter was injured Wednesday morning during a residential blaze in Justice.
He is being treated for “significant” smoke inhalation as well as injuries to his face and both hands, according to Dr. Anthony Baldea, medical director of Loyola’s burn center in Maywood.
The firefighter is still intubated but is expected to make a full recovery, according to the doctor.
Firefighters from the fire protection district had been called out to a fire in a home in the 8000 block of West Fawn Trail.
The owner of the home said the fire began in a downstairs recreation room and spread upstairs.
