Play evokes memories of mom

“La Madre Patria (The Motherland)” is a new play by Jackie Katz, a San Francisco-based political theater teacher, written in collaboration with 10 Santa Rosa women who are domestic and farm workers originally from Mexico. In monologues, dialogues and songs, the women salute the heritage they learned from their mothers far away and long ago.

“The play is to celebrate and honor immigrant mothers and their importance to the community in Sonoma County and beyond,” Katz wrote in an email. “This play humanizes immigrants in this county.”
