Cleveland left no doubt on its way to Round 2 — and finished off the most lopsided series in NBA playoff history.

Donovan Mitchell scored 22 points, De’Andre Hunter added 19 and the Cavaliers rolled past the Miami Heat 138-83 on Monday night to sweep their Eastern Conference first-round series in four games.

Ty Jerome had 18 points, Evan Mobley added 17 and Jarrett Allen had 14 points, 12 rebounds and six steals for the Cavaliers — who led by as many as 60 points.

Cleveland won the four games by a combined 122 points. The previous record: a 121-point combined win by Denver over New Orleans in 2009.

The 55-point margin in Game 4 was the fourth-biggest playoff win ever. The record for biggest playoff win is 58 points, done twice: Minneapolis over St. Louis in 1956 and Denver over New Orleans in 2009. The Los Angeles Lakers beat Golden State by 56 points in 1973.

The Cavs came close. Pelle Larsson kept Miami from that piece of ignominious history. He made a 3-pointer to cut Cleveland’s lead to 55 with about 38 seconds remaining.

Nikola Jovic led the Heat with 24 points. Ban Adebayo scored 13 and Andrew Wiggins added 12 for Miami.

Cleveland will play either Indiana or Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Pacers lead that series 3-1; regardless of whether the Pacers or Bucks advance, Game 1 of that series would be in Cleveland and not played until Saturday at the earliest.

This is the third instance of Miami being swept in a best-of-seven series. The others: against Chicago in 2007 and against Milwaukee in 2021.

Cleveland’s lead was 39 — 72-33 — at the half, the third-largest lead after two quarters in NBA playoff history.

League admits it missed foul on Lakers’ Doncic: Referees missed the Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Doncic getting fouled with 33 seconds left in Game 4 of their playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the NBA said Monday.

The Lakers were down 114-113 in Sunday’s game when Doncic got tripped up — it appeared to be advertent — by Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels near midcourt. Doncic retained possession as he hit the floor and the Lakers called timeout to avoid an 8-second violation.

“McDaniels ... steps forward into Doncic’s ... path, initiating illegal foot contact that causes him to lose his balance,” the NBA said Monday in its Last 2-Minute Report on the Timberwolves-Lakers game. The NBA releases those reports the day after games where the margin is three points or less at any time in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime.

Doncic put it more directly. “I got tripped, for sure,” he said.

Former player Stan Love dies: Former NBA player Stan Love, the brother of Beach Boys singer Mike Love and the father of Miami Heat player Kevin Love, has died. He was 76.

Kevin Love announced his father’s death in an Instagram post Sunday night.

“Dad, I’m so proud to be your son,” Kevin Love posted. “My only hope is that you’re proud of me. It was all I ever wanted. Thank you for everything.”

Stan Love was a 6-foot-9 forward who starred at Morningside High School in Inglewood, California, and at Oregon before he was selected ninth overall by Baltimore in the 1971 NBA draft.

He averaged 6.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 226 games in four seasons with the Bullets and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played 12 games for San Antonio in the American Basketball Association.
