ARVADA
Musician killed, children among the injured in suspected DUI crash
A Colorado musician and father of two was killed by a suspected drunken driver near West 64th Avenue and Lamar Street in Arvada on Monday.
Police and firefighters responded to a multivehicle crash at 3:39 p.m. Monday after a silver GMC pickup truck traveling east on 64th Avenue ran a red light at Lamar Street, hitting a maroon Toyota sedan and a gray Ford Bronco.
The crash caused the Toyota to go into a front yard and home in the northwest corner of the intersection. The driver of the Toyota, 44-year-old Kresten Wolff Thomsen, died at the scene, Arvada police said in a news release.
Two children riding in the sedan were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries. The driver of the Bronco was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash, Arvada police said Monday. The driver of the GMC, 23-year-old Juan Ortega Torres Jr., was also taken to the hospital and is in police custody.
Thomsen was picking up his two children from school and was just a few miles from home when the crash occurred, according to a verified GoFundMe set up for his family. Both children are in intensive care.

WEATHER
Metro area could get snow twice later this week
Denver has two chances for snow later this week as storms move through the state.
The first chance comes Wednesday evening after a few days of highs of warmer weather to melt off last week’s remaining snow.
The high on Wednesday is forecast to be 55 degrees, so any precipitation will likely begin as rain, and then snow could mix with the rain by late evening.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder don’t expect any accumulation from that round of snow in Denver. The next system moves in Friday evening, dropping high temperatures Saturday to 35 degrees. The snow will likely move in Saturday morning, possibly bringing a couple inches.
