A 36-year-old Merrillville man was fatally shot Tuesday night in Gary, police said.

Police responded around 9 p.m. to the 4200 block of East 10th Avenue for a report of a male gunshot victim, Lt. Dawn Westerfield, Gary police spokeswoman, said in a news release.

Police found the man on the ground, and the Lake County coroner’s office declared him dead at the scene, the release states.

The coroner’s office had not released further information as of Wednesday morning.
