NBA coaches may get 2nd challenge if 1st is successful

MIAMI>> NBA coaches may soon get to challenge two calls in a game instead of just one, the league revealed Wednesday.

The current rule gives coaches one challenge per game, whether they’re right or not. The league’s competition committee is weighing whether coaches should be rewarded with a second challenge opportunity to use later in the game if the first one is deemed successful.

Colts keep CB Rodgers out amid gambling investigation

Two days after Indianapolis Colts officials acknowledged they were aware of an NFL investigation into gambling allegations about a player, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. was held out of practice.

Neither the Colts nor the league have publicly identified Rodgers as the target of the investigation though Rodgers posted a statement on Twitter saying he made an “error in judgment” — hours after media reports linked him to the investigation.

Titans bringing in All-Pro WR Hopkins for visit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. >> The Tennessee Titans have a major need for help at wide receiver, and they will be the first NFL team to bring three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in for a free agent visit. Arizona released the five-time Pro Bowl receiver in a salary cap move on May 26.

Women’s World Cup players to get at least $30,000

GENEVA>> Every player at the Women’s World Cup will be paid at least $30,000 by FIFA, and the 23 players in the title-winning team will each get $270,000. The details confirmed Wednesday by FIFA fulfils a promise made in March to financially reward the 732 players taking part in the July 20-Aug. 20 tournament hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Conor Daly parts ways with Ed Carpenter Racing

Ed Carpenter Racing on Wednesday said it has ended its relationship with driver Conor Daly effective immediately and will announce a new driver for the No. 20 Chevrolet by IndyCar’s next race.

NASCAR penalizes Jones for illegal modification

NASCAR issued another set of penalties Wednesday for illegal modifications to its second-year Next Gen car. NASCAR said Legacy Motor Club modified the greenhouse on the No. 43 Chevrolet and fined crew chief Dave Elenz $75,000 and suspended him one race. Both Legacy and Eric Jones were also docked 60 points and five playoff points.

Harvard women’s coach retires amid allegations

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. >> One of the most decorated coaches in women’s hockey history, Katey Stone, has stepped down after nearly 30 years leading Harvard’s women’s hockey program in the shadow of allegations by players that she engaged in abuses and other misconduct during her tenure.
