



The MCAL released its all-league selections for baseball and softball on Tuesday with San Marin High sweeping the baseball honors while Redwood and Marin Catholic split the softball awards.
San Marin’s Sean McGrath was named the league’s pitcher of the year while his battery mate, catcher Matthew Baldino, was selected as the player of the year.
Redwood’s Stella Belluomini throw three no-hitters, including a perfect game, en route to earning softball pitcher of the year honors. Marin Catholic center fielder Morgan Carlson edged out San Rafael’s Sophia Everett for player of the year honors.
McGrath posted an 8-1 record with a 0.30 earned-run average in 69.2 innings of work this season. McGrath allowed 45 hits and six runs (three earned) while piling up 93 strikeouts. McGrath ranked first among MCAL pitchers in ERA, second in wins, and third in strikeouts while leading San Marin to a 13-3 record and the regular-season title.
Baldino led the Mustangs in batting average (.310), hits (26), RBIs (22), and home runs (3). His RBI tally was good for second among all MCAL hitters.
Belluomini posted a 10-10 record this season with a 2.41 earned-run average. She allowed 69 hits and 66 runs in 113.1 innings while striking out 139 hitters.
Belluomini had the only no-hitters in the league this season, with a five-inning perfect game against Archie Williams, plus traditional no-nos against San Marin and Novato. Redwood finished 11-3 in league, tied for first place with San Marin.
Carlson, who hit leadoff for MC, led all MCAL hitters with a .597 batting average, 30 RBIs, and 32 steals. Carlson also ranked second in runs behind Everett (40) with 38 and third in home runs behind Everett (9) and Archie Williams’ Sam Singer (4) with two. MC finished in a third-place tie in league with Archie Williams at 9-5.
In baseball, Redwood led the way with four players on the first team — Theo Trono, Jack Moseley, Sam Gersch, and Miles Harrison. Novato was next in line with three selections in Julian Oliver, Dominic Scafani, and JP Harmon.
MCAL postseason champion Tam put Tito Fierstein and Eli Solem on the team while San Rafael saw both Sebi Chick and Cruz Wexler get selected.
San Marin (with Lauren Fong and Taylor Testa), San Rafael (with Everett and Thomara Drummer), and Archie Williams (with Paige Murphy and Kennedy Dunsing) all put two players on the first team for softball.
The remaining selections were Redwood’s Ava Brown, Tam’s Ava Lee, and Marin Catholic’s Malliah Foster.
