A Gary man charged with attempted murder who the Lake County Sheriff’s Department was looking for turned himself in Wednesday, according to a department spokesman.
The sheriff’s department received a call from an attorney repesenting Larry Vickery, 34, “indicating that Vickery was willing to turn himself in to Sheriff John Buncich only,” which Buncich agreed to, sheriff’s department spokesman Mark Back said.
Vickery surrendered to Buncich at 10 a.m. in the parking lot outside the sheriff’s department, Back said.
Buncich took Vickery into custody without incident and turned him over to Lake County Jail staff, a release said.

His first court date had not been scheduled as of Wednesday morning.
Court records do not list who is representing Vickery.
Officers were dispatched at noon July 6 to a residence in the 2800 block of West 46th Avenue in Calumet Township where they found a woman handcuffed who had been pepper sprayed, according to Back.
The woman told officers that Vickery, who she had a protective order against, had forced his way into the house and battered her in front of a child, who had also come into contact with the pepper spray, Back said.
The woman and child received medical attention, according to Back.
In their investigation, detectives determined Vickery “has made multiple threats against the victim’s life,” Back said.
Vickery was not at the scene when officers arrived, according to the sheriff’s department, and was at large Tuesday when police sent out a release about his charges.
