Former Chicago White Sox manager and shortstop Ozzie Guillen and his wife, Ibis, paid $465,000 in August for a five-bedroom house in southwest suburban Homer Glen.

Guillen, 56, played for the Sox for more than a decade, and then was the team’s skipper from 2004 until 2011, which included the team’s World Series championship win in 2005.

He later managed the Miami Marlins, and currently is a studio analyst for NBC Sports Chicago’s coverage of White Sox games.

In recent months, Guillen and his wife have traded the city and its Northwest Side Bucktown neighborhood for a suburban lifestyle.

They sold their four-bedroom, contemporary-style mansion in Bucktown on July 29 for $1.85 million.

The Guillens’ listing agent, Emily Santos of @properties, said at the time that the Guillens were moving to the southwest suburbs to be near their grandchildren.

However, details on the couple’s new southwest suburban home remained publicly elusive until recently. Although they bought the Homer Glen home in August, their ownership of the new home was not made public in Will County records until the belated recording of their purchase deed Dec. 11.

Built in 1994, the Guillens’ new 3,958-square-foot house has three full bathrooms, hardwood floors and a 2,205-square-foot full finished basement. The home is outfitted with tray ceilings, crown moldings, six-panel oak doors and French doors that lead to the home’s family room. There, half-moon windows accent vaulted ceilings, a fireplace and a wet bar.

The home also has a primary bedroom suite with vaulted ceilings and two walk-in closets, a bonus room with Palladian windows, a three-car garage, and a kitchen with a large granite island, a new backsplash and stainless steel appliances.

Outside, the property has an above-ground pool and a freshly painted deck.

“The curb appeal is amazing,” said listing agent Rima Odeh of Classic Realty Group. “The layout is a very pretty layout, with a family room with vaulted ceilings and spacious bedrooms with nice-sized windows. It’s a good size for the price. And it’s a very desirable location, right off (Interstate Highway) 355.”

The house was on the market for more than a year. Its sellers first listed it in April 2019 for just below $500,000 and reduced its asking price several times before its final $474,900 asking price.

The Guillens are settled in and “enjoying life with their grandchildren and their family,” Santos said.

“And he’s near the golf courses. He likes to be near places to golf,” she said. “He loves being in the Chicago area.”
