Tam High got a taste of the big leagues playing at Oracle Park on Saturday afternoon in a showcase game against a tough Division III Petaluma team. Unfortunately for the D-II Red-tailed Hawks (12-4, 7-1 MCAL), they were left with a sour note after a 7-0 loss to Trojans hurler Arlo Pendleton, a Cal Poly commit.

Pendleton struck out 11 batters and allowed just one hit during 5 2/3 innings of work for the Trojans (12-1, 4-1 VVAL). Five Tam pitchers combined on a six-hitter with eight strikeouts. Tam senior Eli Solem, who’s heading to UC Davis, was the other half of the elite pitching matchup against Pendleton. Solem struck out five batters and gave up four hits and two runs across four innings.

Senior Finnegan McGrane hit a double, while Tito Fierstein and Trey Sasso each had a base hit for the Hawks, who are scheduled to host Novato on Tuesday.

• Junior Cohen Garcia homered and drove in six runs to help power host Novato High to a 13-4 victory over past Analy in a non-league contest Saturday. Garcia was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and added three runs for the Hornets (7-7, 3-5 MCAL). Senior Dominic Scafani was 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBIs and a double. On the mound, junior Griffin Vorhaus struck out five batters and walked two during four innings.

• San Marin’s late rally came up short Saturday in a 8-7 loss to Berean Christian in the Service Champions Classic. Trailing 8-5 after six innings, the Mustangs (9-4, 8-1 MCAL) plated two runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t tie it up. Sophomore Dylan Procopio homered and doubled for three RBIs and a run, while senior Sean McGrath doubled, drove in a run and scored a run. Junior Aidan Whitmore was 3-for-3 and Hunter Uriarte was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles for an RBI and two runs.

• Redwood High surrendered four runs in the bottom of the opening frame, but rallied for a 7-4 victory over Santa Rosa in Saturday’s non-league matchup, a potential Division II playoff preview. The Giants (9-6-1, 6-4) return to league action against Terra Linda on Tuesday as they begin their final stretch of the regular season. Redwood has just six league contests left before the MCAL playoffs, as well as non-league games against Saint Francis and Petaluma.

• Alex Brook hit a walkoff single to give San Domenico a 13-12 victory over Gateway in Friday night’s non-league contest. The Panthers (5-6, 1-1 BCL West) trailed by two runs going into the bottom of the seventh before Crosby Howard drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, Will Rothstein barreled an RBI-single to center for the tying run, then Brook recorded his third hit of the game on a line drive up the middle for the winning run. Howard was 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs.

College baseball

College of Marin cut short Yuba’s rally effort Friday for a 5-4 victory. The Mariners broke a 2-2 tie as they scored in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings for a three-run advantage. But the Miners plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth before Marin’s defense shut them down.

The Mariners’ Derek Bartram, a Novato High grad, hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, but Yuba scored in the bottom of the first and fifth innings to tie the game.

Logan Fiene scored the winning run on an error in the sixth for Marin (24-9-1, 14-1 BVC). San Marin High grad Jacob Walley scored on a triple by Wyatt Davis in the seventh, then Walley hit an RBI single in the eighth.
