The Woodland Christian girls basketball team extended its winning streak to 11 games in a row Monday night after an 84-17 win over defending Sierra Delta League champions Rio Vista.
“We got after it tonight and took down the defending league champs, Rio Vista, taking a two-game lead in the league standings,” Cardinals head coach Shiloh Sorbello said.
According to Sorbello, senior Teagan Hayes had a career high 26 points, with a mix of transition layups, free throws and shots from beyond the arc. Hayes also chipped in with 6 assists and a team high 9 steals.
Point guard Keziah Maldonado-Lemus continued her acclimation period for the Cardinals at point guard, scoring 15 points to go with 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 8 steals. Ellie Sumner was a menace on defense with 6 steals.Bailee Broward had an awesome game with a career high 15 points and 10 rebounds completing her usual double-double. Siena Sorbello and Elena Ganyo had 11 points each giving the Cardinals five girls in double figures.
The Cardinals (13-5, 6-0 SDL) take on Woodland High School on Wednesday night before concluding the first round of SDL action with a road game against Mesa Verde on Friday.
“We need to keep playing well and shoot for a high seed in the playoffs to maximize our home games for our fans,” Sorbello said.
