
Surfing dogs showed up to ride the “ruff” waves in Huntington Beach on Friday; the canine competition showing off the pups’ stellar wave-riding skills.
The 27th annual Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge and Surf Dog Competition continued Saturday as well. The two-day event tests the best in the West for a chance at the national finals later this fall in St. Louis.
While surfing dogs at Huntington State Beach kicked off the competition, several other qualifier events were held, such as the Incredible Freestyle Flying Disc and a Fetch It competition that continued Saturday.
Other popular events include dog diving — where dogs take a running leap off a 50-foot dock into a 20,000-gallon pool of water — and agility competitions.
The sporting event is free for the public to watch and cheer on the pups. The competitions happen at Pacific Coast Highway and Newland Street.
