Alex Karaban, Solo Ball help No. 3 UConn rout Le Moyne, 90-49
HARTFORD, Conn.>> Alex Karaban scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half and No. 3 UConn routed Le Moyne 90-49 on Wednesday night.
Liam McNeeley added 15 points for two-time defending national champion UConn (3-0). Solo Ball scored all 12 of his points in the second half.
Dwayne Koroma led Le Moyne (1-3) with 13 points and five rebounds. Fred Bagatskis had 11 points.
NO. 5 AUBURN 79, KENT STATE 56>> Johni Broome had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Chaney Johnson also scored 18 points to lead Auburn to a victory over Kent State.
The Tigers (3-0) raced to a fast start and then fought off a second-half rally.
NO. 8 HOUSTON 91, LOUISIANA 45>> Terrance Arceneaux had 14 points off the bench, Milos Uzan scored 13 points and Houston routed Louisiana.
Mercy Miller had 12 points off the bench, and J’Wan Roberts and Emanuel Sharp each added 11 points for Houston (2-1).
NO. 11 TENNESSEE 92, MONTANA 57>> Igor Milicic Jr. had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Tennessee beat Montana.
NO. 14 CREIGHTON 78, HOUSTON CHRISTIAN 43>> Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 16 points, Steven Ashworth added 13 and No. 14 Creighton blew out Houston Christian to make Greg McDermott the Bluejays’ all-time coaching wins leader.
McDermott has won 328 games at Creighton since taking over for Dana Altman in 2010.
NO. 18 ARKANSAS 65, TROY 49>> Adou Thiero and Zvonimir Ivisic scored 19 points apiece, and Arkansas used a big second-half run to beat Troy.
NO. 22 ST. JOHNS 66, WAGNER 45>> Deivon Smith drained a 3-pointer midway through the second half to start an 18-0 spurt that propelled St. John’s past Wagner for its first victory as a ranked team in almost 10 years.
Beers scores 27 as No. 9 OU sets school scoring record in win
NORMAN, Okla.>> Raegan Beers had 27 points and nine rebounds, and No. 9 Oklahoma set a school scoring record to roll past Western Carolina 122-56 on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 former Valor Christian star who transferred from Oregon State became the first Sooners player in 16 seasons to have back-to-back games with at least 20 points and 14 rebounds. She remained nearly unstoppable by making 12 of 14 field goals.
NO. 4 TEXAS 95, LAMAR 58>> Freshman Justice Carlton and senior Shay Holle each scored 15 points and Texas defeated Lamar. Holle converted 3 of 4 3-point attempts.
NO. 6 NOTRE DAME 92, JAMES MADISON 46>> Hannah Hidalgo scored 24 points and Kate Koval finished with 14 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks as Notre Dame beat James Madison.
Hidalgo also had six rebounds and four steals for Notre Dame (3-0).
NO. 11 MARYLAND 84, SYRACUSE 73>> Kaylene Smikle scored 22 points, Allie Kubek added 16 and Maryland topped Syracuse. The difference was the second quarter when the Terrapins hit 12 of 17 shots, including four 3-pointers, to outscore the Orange 28-11.
NO. 22 ALABAMA 68, NORFOLK STATE 58>> Sarah Ashlee Barker had 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Aaliyah Nye added 15 points and Alabama beat Norfolk State.
