July 2017 enters the record books as the city’s six-wettest July with
7.68 inches of rain, nearly
4 inches above normal. But the month ended on a dry note, with the city’s last measurable precipitation falling about a week ago. Precipitation is set to return by midweek as moisture arrives on increasing south winds ahead of a cold front triggering showers and thunderstorms. A few could develop late Wednesday, but the best chances appear to be on Thursday. Sharply cooler weather will follow, with temperatures on Friday struggling to reach the lower 70s.
Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Emily developed off the Tampa, Fla., area Monday morning. The storm quickly weakened to a depression as it moved inland but is expected to regain tropical storm strength Tuesday as it emerges over the Atlantic.
