The Clinton Township Kiwanis will host a ceremonial tribute to Wreaths Across America on Saturday to honor fallen soldiers and the memory of loved ones who served in the Armed Forces at Resurrection Cemetery.

The event will begin at noon at the American Veterans Memorial section of the cemetery.

Guest speakers will include Doug “Odie” Slocum, Brigadier General (Ret.) and former leader of Selfridge Air National Guard Base, along with state Rep. Joe Aragona, a Clinton Township Republican.

“Wreaths Across America is about remembering our fallen U.S. veterans, honoring those who currently serve, and teaching our children the values of freedom,” Aragona said in a news release.

Aragona said he is proud to carry on Clinton Township’s Wreaths Across America event in the tradition set by former township supervisor Bob Cannon, who retired in November.

According to the release, more than 30 years ago, holiday wreaths were first donated and placed on the graves of soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2007, a national nonprofit was founded, and Wreaths Across America expanded across the United States.

Resurrection Cemetery’s website shows the cemetery has become one of the largest Wreaths Across America events held annually in Michigan.

The public is invited to events hosted throughout the year on Memorial Day, Patriots Day, and Veterans Day. For more information, call 586-286-9020 or visit www.mtelliott.com/veterans-day.

Resurrection Cemetery is at 18201 Clinton River Road, east of Garfield Road, Clinton Township.
