Resident of Brentwood
Gladys Irene Ashby, 88, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Brentwood, California.
Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on March 17, 1937.
Her family relocated to Concord, Ca, where she attended school. Gladys married Malan (Casey) Ashby on Nov. 5, 1960. They raised their family in Martinez before settling in Brentwood, where she lived for the past 50 years. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend whose warmth and strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Gladys proudly worked as a Teamster for 30 years, most of that time at the Clayton Aggregate Quarry in Clayton, CA. Her strong work ethic and dedication to her job were matched by her deep love for family and community.
She found joy in simple pleasures —participating in local bowling and bocce leagues, crocheting beautiful pieces by hand, and especially spending holidays surrounded by her loved ones. She was of strong spirit and will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the love she gave so generously.
Gladys is survived by her four children: Wally Ashby, Torbjia Chavez (Craig), Kirk Ashby (Doreen), Wendy Winthrop; and ten grandchildren: Jessica, Gary, Morgan, Darin, Eric, Paige, Alicia, Christopher, Mark, and Kent.
Great grandchildren, Tristan, Taylor, Gavin, Lennon, Reese, and baby girl due in December. She also leaves her sister, Nancy Nutt, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Brentwood, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Lung Association at https://action.lung.org (https://action.lung.org/) in Gladys’ honor.
