Age 81, of Stillwater, Minnesota
Passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Thomas was born to Arnold "Red" and Helen Iago, of West St. Paul, MN on March 21, 1943. Born in West Saint Paul, MN, Tom attended Sibley (now Two Rivers) High School where he was Class President. He played hockey & football, excelling in both sports. He started his career at Minnesota Mutual Life insurance company. While working there he took his test to become an officer and began his career in 1967 with the West Saint Paul Police Department.
He worked his way up, becoming a Sergeant, then promoted to Captain and ending his career as Chief of Police in 1998 after 31 years of service. Tom loved what he did. After retiring from police work, he went back to Minnesota Mutual for 10 yrs, only to finally retire in 2008. Tom loved his children and grandchildren.
You could often find him cheering them on at their various sporting events. He almost never missed a game or event. Tom was a huge fan of MN Gopher hockey. He and Carla would go on date nights and games together, taking the kids and grandkids along too. Tom also loved boating, taking vacations to the cabin, visiting family out of state, and playing cards. He loved riding his motorcycle with Carla, his brother, and his sons. They frequented Sturgis for many years. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Preceded in death by parents Arnold and Helen. Survived by his wife Carla; children David (Kari) Iago, Mac (Candi) Iago, Amy (Joe) Vasterling, and Stacy Iago, Robert (Lisa) Goers, Brian (Missy) Goers; brother Edward (Karen) Iago; grandchildren Aleck, Kali, Ethan, Joseph, Molly, Miles, Jack, Luke, Maddison, Grace and Olivia, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation for Thomas will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 S. Robert St., West St.
Paul, MN 55118, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to the West St. Paul Police Department.
