




Mills softball player Hailey Pedroza is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week, and Mountain View baseball player Jaeden Pietrofeso is the boys athlete of the week for April 14-19.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Pedroza finished with 38.34% of the vote. Emery softball player Alejandra Solano Solis took second with 22.4%, and San Leandro softball player Julianna Morales finished third with 15.29%.
In the boys poll, Pietrofeso claimed 50.96% of the votes. Castro Valley baseball player Scott Baldwin took second with 35.49%, and California track and field athlete Darius Brown placed third with 11.06%.
Pedroza pitched a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Gunn, striking out five batters and walking just one. The junior added another shutout in an 11-0 win over Mercy, allowing four hits and striking out six.
Pietrofeso threw a complete-game shutout, giving up just three hits in a 1-0 win over Homestead. The senior had won all five of his starts for Mountain View as of last week.
