Forget about New York and Chicago — for pizza lovers, Los Angeles will be the place to be in April when the annual Pizza City Fest returns to celebrate all sorts of pies.
Now in its third year, the fest will touch on all aspects of the widely loved dish April 26-27 at L.A. Live. More three dozen of Southern California’s premier pizza artisans will be on hand serving everything from Detroit style to Chicago deep-dish to classic Sicilian and Neapolitan pies to New York slices and more.
“The pizza scene in SoCal continues to impress me — from temporary pop-ups to collabs to entrepreneurs who have made the leap from portable baking to full-time brick-and-mortars,” Steve Dolinsky, the founder of Pizza City Fest and a two-time Emmy and 13-time James Beard Award-winning food reporter, said in a statement.
Participating restaurants and chefs include Slice House by Tony Gemignani, who has a celebrity presence and multiple awards; Prince Street Pizza, which serves Sicilian “SoHo” Squares and original Neapolitan pizzas; Long Beach’s Speak Cheezy, which makes its pies with sourdough bread; and Venice’s Angel City Pizza, which focuses on Brooklyn-style and Sicilian pizzas.
Besides devouring slices of pizza, people can also sponge up some knowledge, since the event will include panel discussions by experts.
