LUBBOCK, Texas >> Colorado continues to roll on the road.

After spotting Texas Tech 13 early points, the 21st-ranked Buffaloes dominated most of the day and defeated the Red Raiders 41-27 at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday.

CU (7-2, 5-1 Big 12) has won four in a row on the road in the same season for the first time since 1996. And, coupled with Iowa State’s loss at Kansas, the Buffs moved into sole possession of second place in the conference.

Shedeur Sanders threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead CU to the victory. CU fell behind 13-0 before outscoring the Red Raiders (6-4, 4-3) 41-14 the rest of the way.

This is just the second time in the past 19 seasons that CU has won at least seven games and the first time since the 2016 squad went 10-4. It’s the first time CU has won four road games in a season since 2002.

A recap of the Buffs’ win against the Red Raiders:

First quarter

It was a disastrous start for Colorado. Texas Tech’s J’Koby Williams had a 46-yard return on the opening kickoff, and Behren Morton threw a 35-yard pass to Josh Kelly on the first play from scrimmage. That set up a Morton-to-Jalin Conyers 17-yard touchdown pass three plays later. Then, the Buffs opened up with a false start and fumbled snap and then a punt. Texas Tech added two Gino Garcia field goals, while CU punted on all three first quarter possessions. Score: Texas Tech 13, Colorado 0.

Second quarter

CU flipped the script in the second quarter, forcing three consecutive punts by the Red Raiders. The Buffs, after yet another punt, finally got the board midway through the quarter. Shedeur Sanders hit LaJohntay Wester, who sprinted down the sideline for a 23-yard touchdown. Seven minutes later, Alejandro Mata drilled a 25-yard field goal to pull the Buffs within 13-10 with 30 seconds left in the half. Texas Tech got into field goal range before the half but missed a 53-yard attempt. Score: Texas Tech 13, Colorado 10.

Third quarter

The Buffs received the kickoff to open the second half and marched down the field to take their first lead of the game. Shedeur Sanders completed the nine-play, 75-yard march with a 7-yard touchdown run. Tech got its offense back on track, though, answering with a nine-play, 66-yard drive. Tahj Brooks capped that drive with a 2-yard TD run to give the lead back to the Red Raiders, 20-17. CU’s offense kept rolling, though. Sanders threw a 5-yard touchdown to pass to Will Sheppard, who made a great grab to put the Buffs back on top, 24-17. Texas Tech failed on a fake punt on its next possession, and CU took advantage. Four plays later, Sanders connected with Travis Hunter for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Score: Colorado 31, Texas Tech 20.

Fourth quarter

CU’s defense continued to dominate, getting a sack of Behren Morton on a fourth-down attempt from the Buffs’ 34-yard line early in the final quarter. Then, they got an interception from Nikhai Hill-Green. Following that play, the Buffs’ offense stalled, but Mata hit a 33-yard field goal to push the lead to 34-20. Four plays later, BJ Green sacked Morton again, and he fumbled. CU took over at the Tech 31-yard line but wasn’t able to capitalize and score again. Texas Tech drove to the CU 1-yard line late in the game, but the Buffs stuffed Brooks to prevent the score. Texas Tech did find the end zone again, though, on a 21-yard pass from Morton to Conyers with 2:12 to play. CU was unable to run out the clock after that score, giving Texas Tech one last chance, with 1:03 to play. The Red Raiders started at their own 6-yard line, and on the second play Arden Walker sacked Morton, forcing a fumble that Shilo Sanders scooped up and ran in for a touchdown with 51 seconds to play. Final score: Colorado 41, Texas Tech 27.
