



Cabrillo College basketball talents Dai’shaun Buie and Walzel Evans earned All-Coast Conference South Division first-team honors.
Buie, a freshman forward out of Jordan High in Salt Lake City, averaged 14.1 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Seahawks (15-14, 7-5), who took third in conference and qualified for the CCCAA NorCal Regional playoffs. Evans, a freshman guard out of Harmon High in Kansas City, averaged 13.1 points and 3.5 rebounds
Buie was also named Freshman Player of the Year and was named on the All-Defensive Team. Evans made the all-Freshman Team, as did teammate Jonny Gasologa, a forward out of Kearns, Utah.West Valley sophomore guard Jake Davis was named MVP. San Jose City sophomore guard Matt McAndrews and sophomore forward Davis Crilly and West Valley sophomore guard Robel Zemmo rounded out the first team.
San Jose City sophomore guard Tariq Weiser, a Santa Cruz resident who prepped at Bellarmine College Prep, was named to the second team.
The Seahawks’ Max Parmigiani, a sophomore guard out of American Canyon, was named honorable mention.
Women’s basketball
All-Coast Conference >> Cabrillo had three players — Renee Parker, Sydney Chesnut, and Gabby Brooks — named to the All-Coast Conference South Division first team.
Parker, a forward forward out of Soquel, averaged 11.3 points and 14.5 rebounds, in conference. Chesnut, a freshman guard out of Bishop Gorman in Henderson, Nevada, made 37 of her 104 3-pointers in conference, averaged 13.6 points and 3.3 rebounds, and Brooks, a freshman forward out of Coronado in Henderson, was the fourth leading scorer in conference with an average of 20.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Mission’s Loli Montesino, a sophomore guard out of Watsonville, was a repeat first-team selection. She averaged 18.0 points and 8.1 rebounds for the fourth-place Saints (14-15, 5-5).
The Seahawks’ Jade Crum, a sophomore guard out of Milpitas, was named to the second team, and Gabby Dela Cruz, a freshman forward out of Coronado in Henderson, Nevada, was an honorable mention pick.
Cabrillo (19-11, 6-4) rebounded from a 3-24 campaign and finished third in the South Division and advanced to the second round of the CCCAA NorCal Regional playoffs.
High school baseball
At St. Francis 9, Scotts Valley 8 >> Donovan Dominguez scored the winning run on Max Madrigal’s bases-loaded, no-out, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday.
The Falcons scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead.
“Great early season win,” Sharks coach Ken Nakagawa said. “To fight back and walk away win against a quality team early in the year hopefully gets our younger guys a lot of confidence going into league play next week.”
Noah Magana had two hits, three RBI, and scored a run for the Sharks. Javier Fonseca had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice. Nick Fantl had two hits and one RBI, Nash Horton scored twice, and Dominguez and Mason Borrego each had a hit, RBI, and run scored.
Eli Velez had three of the Falcons’ 10 hits, drove in a run, and scored a run. Kaleb Wing had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice. Lucas Bloom had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run. Monte Jordan had a hit and two RBI, and Nick Acton had a hit and scored twice.
Wing, who is committed to Loyola Marymount University, had 10 pro scouts in attendance to watch him perform. He struck out four batters over 2 1/3 innings and had his fastball clocked at 95 mph.
Fantl pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and earned the win. Acton pitched 2 1/3 innings and took the loss.
The Falcons (1-3), who have a pair of one-run losses, host Carmel (0-1) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
St. Francis (2-0) plays at Soquel (3-0) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Girls lacrosse
At Soquel 9, Harbor 2 >> Junior midfielder Addie Somerville had two goals and three assists, and junior midfielder Ayla Hymes also scored twice, and to help the Knights win their season opener Monday.
Junior attacker Sophie Arnold had one goal and two assists for the Knights.
Senior Reilly Kerko, sophomore Malia Morehead, and freshmen Sophia Santee and Addison Amsden also scored.
Harbor senior goalie Karmalynn Claussen-Sadeh made 20 saves.
Goalie Gianna WIlliams made five saves for the Knights (1-0), who host Aptos on Monday at 7 p.m.
Boys volleyball
At Scotts Valley 3, Kirby 0 >> Junior setter/opposite/outside hitter Will Shanks made 10 assists, five kills and three digs for the Falcons in their 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 sweep in nonleague action Monday.
Defensive specialist Xavier Hernandez had three digs for the Falcons, and junior opposite Marlon Meissner had two kills.
Junior setter Henry Annon had 15 assists and seven blocks for the Griffins. Freshman outside hitter DJ Durbin had three kills and one block, and junior outside hitter Aden Huang had four aces and two blocks.
