Haason Reddick is ready to go.
The star edge rusher will make his New York Jets debut today against the New England Patriots, interim coach Jeff Ulbrich announced.
Reddick ended his lengthy contract holdout when he reported to the team Monday and was removed from the reserve/did not report list. He practiced all week and the Jets liked what they saw from him.
“Had a good week of work with us,” Ulbrich said. “He’s just such an experienced guy. He’s been in so many systems, so to pick up ours wasn’t super difficult for him. He really put in the extra time to learn it and, physically, he looked good out there. We’re excited about what he’ll contribute .”
Ulbrich said Reddick will not have a specific snap count limit in his first game.
“He feels like he’s in good shape,” Ulbrich said. “And although he hasn’t been doing a whole lot of football stuff in a football capacity, he’s been doing a lot of position-specific stuff with pass rush specialists and he’s been doing conditioning and lifting, obviously. So we’ll just kind of play it by ear.
“I think a big part of that’s just going to kind of observe him on game day and see what he’s capable of doing.”
The Jets will add him to the active roster and make a corresponding move ahead of the game at New England.
The 30-year-old Reddick joins a pass rush that ranks sixth in the NFL with 20 sacks, including a career-high eight by second-year edge rusher Will McDonald. Reddick had double-digit sacks totals in each of the last four seasons,.
“Haason, I’m going to give him a clean slate being here,” Ulbrich said.
Dallas brings up Cook
The Cowboys are elevating running back Dalvin Cook from the practice squad, adding an option for the NFL’s worst rushing offense going into a prime-time meeting with rival San Francisco.
Cook signed with the Cowboys late in the preseason but was inactive through six games. Dallas’ running back by committee has been led by Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott.
A season-ending knee injury for tight end John Stephens this past week opened the door for Cook to come off the practice squad.
Dallas has established a decent run game just once, in the second half of a victory at Pittsburgh. The Cowboys are averaging only 77 yards rushing per game going into tonight’s game.
Dowdle has 246 yards on 59 carries, while Elliott is averaging just 3 yards per carry (38 carries for 115 yards) but has the only touchdown rushing for a running back.
Cook, who made four consecutive Pro Bowls in Minnesota, signed with the Jets last year after the Vikings released him. Cook played sparingly in New York before a late-season release. He appeared in one of two playoff games for Baltimore last season.
Cook has 6,207 yards in seven seasons but has also been a receiving threat with 1,872 career yards. The 29-year-old had 1,918 scrimmage yards in 2020, with 1,557 rushing.
Titans make moves
The Titans signed cornerback Gabe Jeudy-Lally, offensive tackle John Ojukwu and wide receiver Mason Kinsey off their practice squad to the active roster and placed offensive lineman Jaelyn Duncan on injured reserve among a flurry of moves ahead of today’s game in Detroit.
